Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16 1936 from 1936 to August 17 in 2015), was an American dancer, actress and choreographer. Craig is most well-known for her roles in the 1960s Batman TV show Batman and Marta the Orion slave girl with green skin, from Star Trek's 1969 episode "Whom Gods Destruction". The Huffington Post called her "a pioneer in female superheroes that were adapted for television." Yvonne Craig was born in Taylorville, Illinois, and was raised in Columbus, Ohio. In 1951 her family moved from Illinois to Dallas. In Dallas, she attended W. H. Adamson High School in Dallas as well as Sunset High School. However, she did not finish her education because she had only "one credits for PE". After being discovered by Alexandra Danilova, a ballerina and teacher, Craig joined the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as the youngest member of the corps de ballet. This experience was beneficial in her stunt work while performing as Batgirl. She quit the ballet company in the year 1957 "over an issue with casting decisions" and relocated to Los Angeles in the hopes of pursuing her dance career, but found herself being cast in film roles. Her first television role was on the TV series Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") in 1958 with Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later played the role of Batgirl's stepfather Commissioner James Gordon. Following her appearances in The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story (all 1959), and Gidget (all 1958) she also appeared as Beverly Mills on the TV show Mr. Lucky (also 1959). Craig was seen in the films Bing Crosby and Seven Women from Hell (1960), where she was in a duet with Cesar Romero. In 1962, she appeared as guest-starring in Western Laramie's "The Long Road Back" episode. Craig also appeared alongside Bing Crosby in High Times (1960) as well as Seven Women from Hell (1961) and Seven Women from Hell (1961), both of which featured Cesar Romero. Craig also starred in two Elvis Presley films: It happened at the World's Fair (1963), as well as Kissin' Cousins (1964). She also played a Russian dancer alongside James Coburn in Mars Needs Women (1966).
